Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,
Are you enjoying this years´ Halloween season? It´s gorgeously pretty outside with all the colors, happy children running around in their costumes & parents trying to follow up with the candies & the entertainment.
The fall is a really beautiful season of the year & although it´s getting darker we´re able to enjoy the coziness of either our home or warmer spots.
Last weekend I had a chance to explore the beautiful Iceland. Sometimes you really need to embrace yourself when trying to survive the changes of the weather in that country.
Nevertheless, I spent two great weeks on the island. Reykjavik food scenery is amazing: I had a pleasure to get to know many locals, explore good food, touristic spots & I have collected some really good tips for you.
Are you ready to get cozy in Reykjavik?
Reykjavik is a small “big” town, if you could call it like that. It´s very charming with small streets, many designer boutiques, several cozy cafes, bars & many people around on the streets. Most of them are tourists, but the atmosphere here is very vibrant & you don´t feel like being in the country where only 330.000-340.000 people live.
The months of the fall can get very chilly & windy. This is probably the reason why they all have the famous “Icelandic wool sweaters” , which are very pretty by the way! 🙂 Besides that, the locals & foreigners who came to the country, have started building & opening many new cafes, restaurants & hotels. There is so much going on around & the best thing is: REYKJAVIK FOOD IS REALLY GOOD!
For a good cup of cappuccino & a pastry or some bakery goods you should definitely stop at the “Sandholt” bakery.
It´s a pretty big place with a lot of beautiful cakes, little delicious pastry treats & good coffee. They have a free wifi so there are some people who sped hours here meanwhile they´re enjoying thei coffee, reading, studying or working.
So if it´s windy & snowing in Reykjavik & you are in the city center, remember this spot! You will enjoy it!
Same cold days deserve really good dinners! Our Saturday evening was dedicated to a place that was recommended by one of the locals. He didn´t only recommend it actually. He sent us to the place! 🙂
The “Fish Company” is a traditional & modern Icelandic kitchen where everyone can find something for their taste & enjoy a good evening. The food here is delightful & you will be amazed of the combination of the taste. Furthermore, their portions are really reasonable for the price you pay.
You will have your table for 2,5 hours & many waiters who will take a good care of you.
The food here is served in those beautiful & fancy plates with a lot of good taste & combination of balanced ingredients. I´m definitely going back to this place once I´m in Iceland again.
Regarding everyday dinners & good food, I have found another good place in the city center. This is a restaurant called “Kitchen & Wine“.
As simple as the name is, their food is not very “simple”. They have a pretty short menu, but you will be able to find a lot of good food & snacks on it. Something like “chili caramel popcorn”, fancy “club sandwich”, interesting salads etc.
Furthermore, they have their happy hours & the choice of the cocktails & wine is pretty good. You need to try their homemade snacks as “homemade chips” & already mentioned “chili caramel popcorn”. It´s a really good place for you to relax & enjoy a good evening with your friends.
Furthermore, they have this lovely fireplace where you can get warm after a good hike in the Icelandic nature.
So, my dearest readers. This is it for today. Write these tips down, check your tickets & flights for Iceland & once you get there, remember to enjoy the nature, your time & the good Icelandic food!
I have some more tips for the destination, but they will show up on the blog a little bit later.
You know what they say “Eat well. Travel often.”
Talk to you soon,
Enjoy your last days of this October!
With Lots of Love,
